What are Cannabis Edibles?

Cannabis edibles are a hot topic in the cannabis industry these days. With legalization coming to more and more countries, there's a greater demand for these food items. However, there are also risks involved in consuming cannabis edibles that you should be aware of.

Labeling foods and beverages with warnings is a controversial issue in the U.S., but it's a necessity overseas. In other countries, risk factors range from kidney failure to death of children. Yet even with these risks, many people still decide to consume edibles rather than grow their own plants or purchase pre-rolled joints because they are easy to transport or conceal when traveling abroad.

The truth is that there is no data on the effect of edible marijuana on a child's health. However, that doesn't mean that they're completely safe for consumption.

how to safely make cannabis treats at home

Here are some things you can do to safely make your own cannabis treats at home:

  • Start small. Make sure to start with a treat a day in order to get used to the effects before eating more than one or two servings of buds at once. You should also store your marijuana in an airtight container if possible, as the moisture from the air can cause moldy weed when it dries out.
  • Avoid storing your stash in the same area as food. In other words, don't make cookies infused with cannabis right next to a fruit bowl and the refrigerator. The fumes from the smelly flowers could potentially contaminate your foods and start your kid's day off on the wrong foot.
  • Clean up any spills immediately. This is a dangerous mistake that many people have made before when cooking with marijuana. Ideally, you should wait until after cooking to smoke or eat the edibles because smoking marijuana can increase your blood pressure, so passing out will make cleaning up much more difficult for yourself and others around you.
  • Finally, sticking to conventional edibles is the safest way to avoid accidents. These recipes are less likely to spill or make an oily mess in the kitchen.

Where to buy Cannabis edibles

If you're thinking about buying edible cannabis products, here are a few things to consider:

  • Do your research. Most of the time, you have to choose between two different edibles: the ones specifically made for medical purposes and the ones made with THC or CBD that anyone can enjoy. As we mentioned above, there might be some risks involved in consuming edible marijuana that must be considered before deciding which approach is best for you.
  • Check out the ingredients label on your new edibles. Why not take advantage of what's so great about cannabis? These recipes actually contain many health benefits and nutrients just as healthy foods do. So why not enjoy the efficiency and medicinal benefits of cannabis without the risks?
  • Bribe your friends. Cannabis tastes good, so you might be tempted to give it to your friends as a gift in the beginning. If you can't do that, maybe you can try asking for their couch for a few days or an extra couch at work. The more people who enjoy something, the more likely they are to recommend it and make it popular.
  • Make it as discreet as possible and keep your stash at home or in a safe place where no one will find them. In this case, grow some of your own flowers for edibles and store them in a food-safe container.

how to make marijuana edible

How to make marijuana edible?

What's the best way to make your own cannabis treats?

Edibles are simply cannabis-infused foods, beverages, and other products. You can eat them, drink them (in tea, smoothies, etc.), or consume them through vaporization in order to get the most out of the marijuana effects.

Another great thing about edibles is that they're relatively easy to make at home and you can do it yourself without getting high once you've learned how to do it. All you have to remember is a few simple rules about cooking with marijuana that will guide you step-by-step through each process below:

Prepping your ingredients

The first step of this process is to prepare your ingredients. In order to do this successfully, you only have to follow a few simple rules:

  • Count the number of servings that you want to make. Then, use the product information on each product or simply divide the number of servings by that serving size in grams, ounces, etc.
    • For example, if you want to make two servings out of one package (such as four medium brownies), then divide four by one (4 divided by 1 equals 2). This means that you have to use 20 grams of marijuana in your recipe.
  • Choose your ratio. The cannabis to edible ratio is the number of grams of flower that you're going to use in a recipe divided by the number of servings that you have.
    • If you're going to make a single-serving brownie, for instance, then you have to use 100 grams of marijuana per brownie (100 divided by 1). You can also add more ingredients for flavor and texture, such as ground nuts or seeds.

Cooking your marijuana

The next step in the process is to cook your marijuana. Just remember to check a few things before you do it:

  • First, measure out the butter or oil that you're going to use so you know exactly how much you're using for each recipe.
    • If you want to end up with 40 milliliters of infused butter or oil, then begin by pouring 100 milliliters of water into your pot and measuring it out with a measuring cup.
    • Then 100 grams of butter to this liquid and keep stirring over low heat until the mixture has reduced by half (50%). Use a spoon to stir and make sure that nothing gets stuck at the bottom of the pan.
  • Next, add your marijuana and continue to reduce the liquid until it's been reduced by two-thirds (67%). This process can take as long as two or three hours, so be patient!
  • If you're going to infuse your marijuana in oil, then you only have to place the plant matter into a container of hot oil.
    • Then, heat it slowly for 20 minutes while stirring constantly. Make sure that not leaves are blocking the holes at the bottom of the pan!
    • When mixed properly, this mixture should look like cannabis-infused olive oil. If not, then keep cooking for another 10 minutes and recheck.

The final product

When your cannabis has been fully infused, you're ready to add it to your recipe. Many people use butter or oil that's been infused with cannabis for cooking hot chocolate, brownie batter, popcorn, and more!

If you're going to use the infused butter or oil for frying foods like French fries or chicken wings, then make sure not to heat it more than 300 degrees Fahrenheit. This process will make sure that all of the THC is gone and the healthiest part of the plant stays in your food.
